Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) plays a major role in maintaining a strong framework for regulating Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) practises at national level and ensuring that all parties involved comply with the rules and regulations set by the authority, said SHENA Enforcement Division Director Terrance Douglas Jayasuriya.

He made these comments during the final roadshow for SHENA’s Safety Month at Pusat Insani in Belait District yesterday.

Jayasuriya also highlighted how the roadshow was conducted across all four districts in conjunction with World Day for Safety and Health at Work observed every April 28.

“This year’s theme ‘A safe and healthy working environment is a fundamental principle and right at work’, serves to outline the steps needed to achieve and maintain the safety and health at work as it is the ultimate right of every worker regardless of the situation, to have a safe and healthy working environment,” Jayasuriya said.

“These efforts aim to ensure that a safe and healthy culture is practised at the workplace, which can reduce the risk for people, assets and the environment,” he added.

He also highlighted how SHENA’s commitment extends beyond the roadshow, as several activities have been planned throughout June to raise awareness on the importance of the role individuals play in ensuring a safe and healthy workplace.

Acting Belait District Officer Haji Amirol Hafidzin bin Haji Muhammad officiated the opening of the roadshow.

The booths at the roadshow were set up by SHENA, focussing on their role in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, while initiatives on workplace safety and health were showcased by the Manpower Planning & Employment Council Secretariat, JobCentre Brunei, Authority on Building Control and Construction Industry (ABCi), Centre for Lifelong Learning (C3L), Lifelong Learning Centre L3 (L3C), Brunei International Airport Cargo Centre, Bureau Veritas (B) Sdn Bhd, Joffren Omar Company Sdn Bhd, Unified National Networks, Germanischer Lloyd Offshore & Industrial Services (B) Sdn Bhd, Megamas Training Co Sdn Bhd, Rina Energy (B) Sdn Bhd, EX-TG Zones Consultant & Services, Kare Medical Clinic and SRS Emergency & Rescue Solutions Sdn Bhd.

Among the activities at the roadshow included talks on emerging occupational diseases and ways of ensuring a safe and healthy working environment and interactive games to promote safety awareness.

The event concluded with the announcement and prize presentation for the winners of Play and Win, Liew Min Fei, Awangku Mohd Abd Halim bin Pengiran Ahmad, and Soffena Desman.
