30th September 2022, ASEAN awarded fifteen enterprises for their achievements in creating a safe, healthy, inclusive and supportive work environment at the Fourth ASEAN – Occupational Safety and Health Network (OSHNET) Awards ceremony.
In his remarks, Secretary-General of ASEAN Dato Lim Jock Hoi congratulated the awardees for their commitments to the promotion of workers’ resilience by adopting high standards of safety and health in the workplace, which is critical to sustaining ASEAN’s post-pandemic recovery.
The ASEAN-OSHNET Excellence Awards were presented to seven enterprises which performed good OSH management systems. They are Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd of Brunei Darussalam; Olive Apparel (Cambodia) Co., Ltd of Cambodia; PT. Petrosea, Tbk. – Petrosea Support Facilities of Indonesia; FGV Sahabat 11 Plantation of Malaysia; Apache Cement (Shwe Taung Cement Company Ltd) of Myanmar; Testing Inspection & Solution Pte Ltd of Singapore; and Thai Summit Harness Public Co., Ltd of Thailand.
In addition, the ASEAN-OSHNET Best Practice Awards were presented to eight small and medium enterprises with good OSH practices, namely Bandtree Sdn Bhd of Brunei Darussalam; Marvel Garment Co., Ltd of Cambodia; PT. Tirta Gajah Mungkur of Indonesia; LG Consulting and Construction Sole Co., Ltd of Lao PDR; Tech Food Ingredients Sdn Bhd of Malaysia; Shwe Phe Oo Tea Powder and Tea Mix Factory of Myanmar; Penguin Engineering & Construction Pte Ltd of Singapore; and Thai Containers Group Co., Ltd (Songkhla Plant) of Thailand.
Since its inception in 2016, the ASEAN-OSHNET Awards have recognised private companies for their compliance with labour and OSH laws, their genuine and effective leadership and workers’ participation, as well as their sustainable and transferable OSH good practices. The Awards also strengthen public-private partnerships in improving OSH in the region. The Ministry of Labour of Myanmar hosted the virtual Awards Ceremony back-to-back with the 9th ASEAN-OSHNET Conference, where awardees shared their robust safety and health management policies.
The first OSHNET Awards ceremony was hosted by Viet Nam in 2016, followed by Cambodia and Lao PDR who hosted the second and third Awards in 2018 and 2021 respectively.
